You can’t spell Radio without Dj Sabby! He eats, sleeps and breathes the medium. Born Sabelo Mtshali in KZN, Dj Sabby knew earlier on in his life that he would be counted amongst stars and he prepared for that moment! He studied Radio Production after which he was swept up by popular Cape Town radio station KFM and later held down a graveyard slot on 94.7 Highveld Stereo (now called 947).
Because Dj Sabby is limitless, he craved a challenge, that’s when he got into the Y-Academy as an intern, after graduating from the Y-Academy, his talent was quickly spotted and that’s when he worked his way up from the graveyard slot to now hosting ‘The Best drive’ on YFM (3pm to 7pm), stepping into the shoes of radio legends like Fresh.
Dj Sabby commands a healthy listenership on ‘The Best drive’ allowing him to reach a wide audience of young people between 16 and 35 years old.
‘The Best drive’ received a nod of approval from industry peers with the show’s nomination for the best drive show in SA at the Liberty Radio Awards in 2017.
Dj Sabby is always looking to break the ceiling and because he’s his only competition, he made history this year by being the first radio dj on YFM to ever broadcast LIVE from London for a week at the BBC Wogan House studios.
DJ Sabby’s ambitions saw him thinking bigger, thinking about creating a legacy and wanting more from life! That’s why he is always looking for new adventures, new ways to connect with his audience and give them something fresh. He tried his hand at merchandising, by starting a movement of ‘Get paid…No days off’ T-shirts, sweaters and caps to motivate the youth, these sold well and he moved on to the next big thing. Dj Sabby is currently creating online content around his interests (Urban lifestyle: Music, fashion, motoring and current trends) called ‘The best life TV’.
